What is Pilates?
If we don't attempt to change the bad habits of our daily
lives, we can not hope to improve the quality of our movements and improve our
general well being.
[Pilates Institute of Australasia - PIA]
Pilates is essentially a mind-body centring technique emphasizing the importance
of beginning movement from a central core. A stable central core enhances
function and overall efficiency thereby reducing injuries and relieving
physical stresses.
The Pilates technique is passive in action but intensive in concentration and
direction, as its technique embraces a various range of physical movement for
muscular toning. Pilates is for who? For those who have 'never done anything
before' concerning fitness activity it will change and provide results, no
matter that skill level. For those who are more than 'trainer' and enjoy
physical fitness, pilates will provide a greater component of control and
stability to your physical being and action with movement.
With this method, certain muscle groups are isolated so no unnecessary energy
is expended. In this way maximum performance is being achieved through focused
effort on specific muscles. Weak muscles are strengthened and new postural
positions are activated, released, encouraging better health and postural
practices for daily living.
The manner in which the Pilates exercises are performed is more important than
the number of repetitions or the exertion that is applied to the acting
movement. Quality is superior to quantity. With instruction, application and
dedication to basic principles that are taught by your instructor, results can
be achieved. Attaining the body that one desires is not as 'scientific' or
mind-bending as one would imagine.
