Pilates in Sport .... Strong
to the CORE!
A lot of people think that 'core muscles'
refers to their ABDS but infact it includes all the
muscles of the trunk that help with stabilizing and moving the spine,
including scapulars and pelvis. Having strong core muscles, also
called trunk muscles or
the 'inner unit' that work together properly is important for all
movement, from sport to basic functions of daily life. For the sporting
person, this strong inner unit is a prerequisite for the prevention
of injury, enhancing sport performance, improved balance and proper
muscular development, as ONE complete functioning
unit.
While pilates has been recognised as the chosen
exercising method for many VIPS, scientific studies on its movement
and sequence of routine have demonstrated that it's methodologies
and benefits also belong to, and are incorporated in various general
physiotherapy rehabilitation programs, and sporting development
programs for athletes, in modern times.
Why Pilates? ... pilates is a series of
exercises designed to strengthen the body from the inside out, starting
from the CORE. Core muscles include any muscle
that has role in or with one of the five major postures: standing,
sitting, lying prone, supine and quadruped. Therefore, to work one
or two isolated groups of muscles to train the core is not
good enough ... training needs to be focused on integrated training
of several muscle groups together, to which pilates addresses this
issue correctly and also develops ideally.
Our program for SportPilates® and athletes
develops sport specific programs/training with the following basis:

Our certified specialised and experienced trainers
will lead you through the sequence of exercises and development
of each stage of function in relevance to your sporting requisites.
Core strength plays a role in many sports such as: baseball/softball,
basketball, soccer, golf, athletics/running, swimming, racquet sports,
equestrian riding, volleyball, rugby, cycling, skiing, dance,
... so when you are teeing off, or serving for an ace, or holding
it together to finish the race, remember that it all starts from
within, so that all the rest can strongly
build around.
